Emerging from the deep blue of the Tyrrhenian Sea the island of Capri stands as a sentinel to the entrance Bay of Naples. A cloud, of its own making, hovers over Monte Solaro like a cap. Most the land is uninhabited as it is composed of rock mountains and abysses that even the trees have trouble clinging to. On the left, the islands of Scoglio del Monacone and Faraglioni greet one to the Marina Piccola where the wealthy denizens moor their yachts and schooners. Beautiful blues of the sea against harsh rocky greys, homes of ancient emperors counter those of contemporary entrepreneurs and entertainers, and the vacationers opposed to local fishermen it is an island of contrasts and contradictions.
