Lost Tourist Women on Phones - Lower East Side, New York City

Two women check directions on their phones in this street photograph from the Lower East Side section of New York. Standing in front of a construction fence, part of the neighborhood’s increasing gentrification, they represent the new visitors to this once blighted neighborhood. The Lower East Side was historically a slum for new immigrants to Manhattan. Over the past few decades it has increasingly become a shopping and partying area for the affluent young, adventurous enough to venture away from the more settled parts of Manhattan.
